I changed my mind and like this question better.
Trond and the mechanic discuss the impact their fathers had on them. Trond and his father seem so different and don't seem to connect. What impact do you think Trond's father had on him?

In the book Trond says he learned practical things from his father. This makes the impact his father had on him based more on Trond being thankful for his father providing for him and not the emotional connection that they might or might not hoave had.
ReplyDeleteI think that Tronds father had a good as well as bad effect on him when he was young. For the bad side, his father got into a childish "Strength battle and broke Lars' fathers leg. And he also had a good effect on him in the way that he taught him to be simple and gracious for things and people.
ReplyDeleteI think Trond's character as an adult developed based on what he observed his father doing. His father was his role model. I agree with Austin that this has both positive and negative effects on Trond in the long run.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not think that Trond and his father are that different. Yes they do have their differences but they are both reserved and not great conversationalists. Trond gets this personality trait from his father with is not that great of an impact. I think that had Trond and his father had deeper and more complex conversations Trond could have been less socially awkward and could have been better at making friends.
ReplyDeleteSara,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kali in the sense that I don't see Trond and his father all that different from one another, they definitley aren't identicals in their personalities but they see eye to eye with one another for the most part. I think Tronds father impacted Trond in his ways of going about things, when I say this I mean in like habits and methods of doing things. He seems to have the same organized, methodical, militant like work habits as his father and his personality is sort of like his father; both of them being very calm and content with everything.
Alex, I like the way that you put that Trond and his father aren't identical but he bases his habits on his father. He is very calm and tranquil about any task at hand, getting what needs to be done completely finished without stress. Trond becomes a little flustered if he has to do something that his father never showed him how to do- this exemplifies the dependence his life now has on his father's actions when he was a child.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Trond and his father are similar. I think he gets some of his personality traits from his father. I also agree that they have the same way of doing things and work habits.
ReplyDeleteTrond and his father are very much alike. Each had a profound effect of the other's personality and future. Trond influenced his father to become a more nuturing and thoughtful man. His father influenced Trond to become the strong, independent man that he is today.
ReplyDeleteI think that Trond and his father are very different people. Trond is the suave and popular man that his father was. But that doesn't mean that his father had a big impact on him. When Trond approaches a task that is new to him he tries to imagine how his father would do it. If that doesn't show the enormous impact then I don't know what does.
