question

Why does Trond choose to go along with whatever Jon says, and never stands up for what he knows is wrong?

  1. I have interpreted Trond's character to be a follower. He is unsure of who he is and feels drawn to try the things that others do. As I have found him to be a follower it does not fit his personality to want to be living alone. On the other hand as a follower he could be tired of being led and wants to live by himself so no one can have control over him

  2. Good queston,
I think Trond listens to Jon and doesnt stand up is because he is a quiet character like his father. We can tell from the moments that the two of them have together that there isnt a lot of talking. This is probably why he doesnt stand up, only because thats not how he works.

  3. In response to your question, I think that Trond always follows Jon's ideas because he is a very modest and doesn't ever feel the need to be the leader. He is a quiet person around people, and only talks when need be. I think that he likes his peacefulness, because he lives in the condense forest where there is not a lot of noise to bother him.

  4. I personally believe that Trond is used to being the "stable one" in his relationships, letting others take the lead both emotionally and literally. Instead of seeking conflict by speaking his mind, he settles for the easygoing role.

  5. In agreement with what everyone else have said so far I also think that Trond was used to being the follower and tagging along and had no need or desire to be the leader. It is in Trond's character to be quiet and not social unless he needs to be. Trond likes to be alone this is why he didn't spend a lot of time leading other kids around.

  6. I completely agree with Austin that Trond is like his father and is way more reserved and wont say anything or knows how to even.

  7. Trond is a born follower- without Jon it is highly unlikely that he would go on adventures by himself. Jon adds a sense of adventure to his life, stirring up a rather mundane lifestyle. He finds kinship in Jon, and is fine with letting him take the lead.

  8. Caitlin,
Like stacey said trond was truley born a follower. He never really stands up for what he wants or really ever gives a different opinion on things he just goes with the flow. Jon is clearly the leader but in no way does Trond feel even a pinch of jealousy towards this for if he did their friendship would never have worked out as well as it did.

  9. Like Schwab said, Trond is a true follower. Trond is one to take things as they come rather than taking action. Jon however is the opposite. Jon takes action and makes things happen that Trond follows. Trond might get this from his dad but most likely he developed this as a kid, not being around many other people than close relatives. Just a thought.

  10. I think that Trond enjoys to be a follower because he is a quiet person. I think that he would much rather like to be the follower than the leader. Trond also seems to not have the confidence to stand up for Jon.

  11. To me Trond chooses to go along because he knows that if Jon weren't there leading for him he wouldn't really know what to do. Especially in his childhood Trond wasn't that creative or thoughtful. He has to get his idea from somewhere and that happens to be Jon. Even in his later life Trond can't do something without imagining his father do it.

  12. Caitlin-
I feel the reason Trond doesn't stand up to Jon is because he is afraid of being afraid. He doesn't want to seem weak by standing up to Jon and not participating in Jon's idea of fun activities. He doesn't want others to perceive him as afraid. Also, he lacks confidence and doesn't have the strength to speak what he believes is right.
