Alexa, Here is the dictionary definition of lonely: affected with, characterized by, or causing a depressing feeling of being alone; lonesome. Its a pretty poor defintion on dictionary.com's part. But anyways what I think defines someone as lonely is someone who constantly feels there is something missing in their life. I would consider Trond semi-lonely only because he seems to fend pretty well on his own and without the flashbacks he is pretty content.
I think someone who is lonely would be a person wanting interaction with others, but not having it. In a way Trond could be seen as lonely because he has no one around him, but he also is not because that's the way he wanted it. He always wanted to be alone, so overall I don't think he would really be considered lonely. He also finds way to counter loneliness by having his dog, who is easier to interact with than humans are for Trond.
Someone who is lonely is someone who desires the company of others, but does not have it. Trond rarely desires company with others, and therefore I believe he is happy being "alone". Obviously there are other events in his life that have affected him to make him this way, but I think his companionship with Lyra is enough to keep him from desiring other people to be with him.
Wanting someone to talk to and someone to be around with is someone who is lonely. I dont think Trond is lonely yet because he still has Jon and his dad. Trond doesn't seem like the person who would get lonely either because in his later years he doesn't interact with his neighbors and his only companion is his dog Lyra.
I think that someone who is lonely is someone who isnt familiar with many things and doesnt have anyone to interact with when they really do. I don't think Trond is lonely because he has is dog Lyra. Dogs will never allow someone to feel lonely. They always seem to give you love and company. Also, Trond still has Jon, his dad, and all of the memories he can look back on.
Generally someone who is thought of as "lonely" is portrayed as sad and friendless. In my opinion, Trond is neither- he merely has no personal need for trivial things such as small talk among people he hardly knows. He is a caring person, and we can see through his friendship with Jon that he can be a great friend when he wants to be.
I think a lonely person is someone who is lacking and looking for someone to spend time with. I think that Trond isn't lonely because though he is alone he isn't distraught about it. He has all the company that he needs in Lyra. He is even a little put off when Lars comes to have dinner because he wanted to be just with himself. To me it sounds dismal abut Trond is content
Alexa- I think someone who is lonely longs for interaction with other human beings, but doesn't have the opportunity to have these relationships. I don't think Trond is lonely because he has chosen to make his life in a rural part of the world. He also doesn't seem to want strong bonds with other people because he has isolated himself from everyone.
Alexa, I would have to say that Trond is alone, but he is not lonely. I think he isolated himself to be with nature, and with Lyra, so that he wouldn't be completely alone. After all he chose to be alone.
