Good question. I think Tronds life will change in regards to a possible relationship/friendship with Lars. Between the two, both of their lives could be changed and not so isolated.
Great question David! I think that nothing gigantic will change in Trond's life. I believe that he will still remain isolated although I would say that I believe that his and Lars relationship will become stronger.
David, I think that Trond's life will change as we near the end of the novel. I think it will change in the sense that I think Trond will befriend Lars in the future. I think they will become semi-good friends and may even help each other get through obstacles that may be yet to come.
David, I think Trond may change a little, but not a huge change. I feel that he may grow closer to some people in his surroundings like Lars, but his personality will not change a lot. I think he will continue to be a reserved person just not as much.
I agree with everyone that he will not do a complete 180, but will become better friends with Lars and branch out more. His nature tends to make him more solitary, so no matter what happens I don't think he will lose that tendency in his personality.
I tend to agree with everyone as well, Trond just has that something in him that makes him not want to branch out and expose himself to new things. He might change a little bit due to things that happen later in his life but like Stacey said, he will not do a complete 180.
I don't think Trond himself will change at all, but there may be some changes in his relationships. Especially with Lars, since they do share somewhat of a history together. I also think that Trond will stay somewhat isolated. Trond is at an old age, and he might not see any point in deciding to move around anymore.
Again, I really don't think that Lars and Trond will become great friends. I think (and hope) that Trond will discover something exciting about his past through his many flashbacks- perhaps they serve as Per Petterson's way of foreshadowing and will soon become different pieces of a puzzle.
I agree with a lot of what Daria is saying. Trond is done socializing and so though he might befriend Lars and share some nice moments with him I don't think that much will develop outside of Trond's mind. I think that the novel can really only end in Trond's death because he will figure out what has him in such a funk. But I do think that he will remain isolated until the end.
David- I do not think there will be a change in the way Trond is living his life. I also don't believe Trond and Lars are going to create a strong bond and become close. I think Trond will continue to live alone in isolation.
Good question.

I agree with Austin. I think he will remain semi isolated just because it is in his nature. He might also branch out to the people who live nearby.
