I think this is because Trond admires his father. He wants to be like his father and do what he does. Because both Trond and his father are not good conversationalists, being there for each other does not mean talking but physically being near the other person.
Both Trond and his father love working. In the beginning of the book Trond is working on his house and he seems to enjoy doing it himself. I think that Trond and his father communicate to each other through their work. Agreeing with what Sara said, I also believe that they are not very talkative people.
I would agree with both girls that he admires his father and loves working and communicates through working rather than a normal father son conversation.
I think that part of Trond enjoying his relationship with his father is that they don't have to communicate in order for it to be good. I also agree that working is a way for them to grow closer, but not communicate through words. I think that's also where Trond gets his quiet personality from so it's not weird for either of them not to talk.
I agree with waht Caitlin said about Trond getting his quiet personality from his father. I also think that based on the setting and time of this novel working was the only things these people did, this is kind of how they communicated.
Tronds bond with his father was important to him because it was all he had apart from Jon to look up and admire. This bond was unspoken and was strengthened by working with his father. He inherited his solidarity from his father, so working in silence is not awkward for either of them.
Trond is simply a quiet person and doesnt like to communicate through words. Trond and his dad share a relationship that know one else can expirience. there are many different types of relationships and theirs is by working.
I think that Trond loved his relationship with his father, even when they didn't talk because it was a mutual understanding relationship. Like Sara mentioned before, Trond is just like his father and looks up to him. Because his father didn't see the need to talk, Trond didn't either. They simply enjoyed each other's prescence.
I think that Trond and his father's relationship consists on the basis of respect, and less on love than the average father-son relationship. Trond has a profound amount of respect for his hardworking father, a trait he carries on to his adult life.
I am not really sure that Trond loved the relationship with his father even though he always talks about it. I think that he had a lot of problems communicating with his father but his father was such a strong and ideal figure that he viewed his father as an idol but it seems to the reader that Trond idolized his father more as a stranger does.
